Generac Power Systems 5735 Details and Specifications
17500 Watt Generac Portable Generator With Electric Start
The Most Powerful Portable Generator Available
Power outages usually occur without warning. Ideally, a homeowner is prepared with an automatic home standby generator installed and always ready to go. However, if a portable generator is the only option for backup power during an emergency, Generac's 17500 Watt Generator is the ultimate option, with enough power to run up to a 5-ton air conditioner or up to 16 circuits. Also an ideal choice for job sites with high power requirements.
Reliability From the Start
It’s in the engine. Generac designed the engine to stand up to the long hours of continuous use that portable generators run. Generac's OHVI® engine incorporates full pressure lubrication with automotive style spin on oil filter for longer life engine, and low oil shutdown to prevent engine damage.
Easily Accessible Controls
A portable generator needs to be ready for use at all times. Generac added maintenance reminders right on the hour meter, and the convenient fuel gauge provides at-a-glance fuel monitoring. Many portable models have controls located in inconvenient locations, making it difficult to access them quickly, especially in the dark. We gave control placement careful consideration, with comprehensive control sets conveniently located for easy access.
17kW Generac Generator Control Panel
Receptacles are protected by circuit breakers to protect cords and prevent overloading. The 50-amp, 120/240 volt receptacle is protected by a toggle-type circuit breaker. All other AC receptacles have pushbutton-type breakers. The 12-Volt DC charging outlet is current limited to 10 amperes. 30-Amp and 50-Amp receptacles require the correct generator cables for use (sold separately).
• (2) 120V 20-Amp 5-20R Duplex receptacles (one GFCI) provide up to 2400 watts of power each.
• (2) 120V 30-Amp L5-30R Twist Lock receptacles provide up 3600 watts of power each.
• (1) 125/250V 30-Amp L14-30R Twist Lock receptacle for up to 7200 watts of power.
• (1) 125/250V 50-Amp 14-50R supplies 12,000 watts of power
• (1) 12-Volt, 10-Amp outlet allows battery charging using the included clip on battery cord.
This generator's ground is bonded to the frame for use as a portable. The floating neutral is not bonded to ground or to the generator frame to allow use with a two-pole manual transfer switch. Additional grounding lugs bonded to the frame allow connection to suitable earth grounds rods where required.

Bad 50 amp breaker in less than 14 hours of use.
Bad 50 amp main breaker. Service is hard to find. Generac just makes them! I bought the Generac 17500e from Factory Pure.I bout it for power outage backup. I received it in good working order. It was easy to put the pieces together. I filled the crankcase with included oil and put good quality pure gasoline in it. The motor runs perfect. The problems: It took me a while to figure it out but when the 50amp power main (the one I hooked into my home fuse box) trips whenever it gets hot. This has nothing to do with load on generator but only ambient temperature which is Texas heat (summer 90+ F and engine displacement heat) no AC for me. This means no power for me unless I hook up extension cords. Considering it uses approx. 1.4 gallons an hour, a bit expensive to run the refrigerator on. Now the important part: Generac seems to sell good retail home use products at a descent price. Before you buy a Generac ask yourself the following? Who will fix it? (Mine was broken from day one, It took me 10 month to figure it out). No one I have been able to find in Houston and Katy, Texas will come and work on this 500lb. unit at your house. Surprisingly this includes good old Generac in Tomball, Texas, there non-company dealers that offer home repairs stationary home units. When I called I got a response like you get a response like you would get when you tell some one at you have Leprosy. "A portable"!!!!!!! We do not fix those at your house or in our shop. I checked with several dealers in the Houston Katy area that were referred by Generac Corp. customer service. One of the dealers recommended I call Home Depot. HD said; "We only offer installation". Another recommended dealer said we can work on the motor, not the electrical. I had one company who said bring it by no problem (has a 1 star customer satisfaction rating out of 5). I saw other individuals who had an overheating problem (on internet search) on the 50amp. breaker. When you call customer service they will just point you to the dealers which may have Generac training and or parts but absolutely no affiliation. Keep in mind that Generac will not sell you parts either. I was also not allowed to speak to anyone with repair ability at Generac. The message I continued to get at Generac customer service was, "See a private service company". A high customer service rating on those I found was a 3 out of 5. I am writing this to you because I thought surely a Generac dealer would come out for a price and fix my unit, No! Buying this is similar to buying a new car. Sorry! We just sell them. Go to a private shop for repair. Can you sell me some parts. Sorry, No! Before you consider a Generac home unit, check the price for a service agreement and the companies reviews. I have found them to be surprising low considering this is an upper middle class and rich market. If your unit arrives and works properly, according to the service manual will need to drive to the shop for repair after 50 hours run time for valve adjustment. I hope you have a pickup, lot of people or a fork cliff. I offered to send it to Wisconsin an my cost (from Texas) Customer service said we manufacturer not repair!

Brand new
Assembly was easy, started right away but haven’t needed to use it yet. It just is a piece of mind knowing that we have a back up plan if we lose power. Jury is out until we need it.

Brute power
Perfect portable generator for heavy duty needs. Still fits in the back of a four wheeler. Lots of power and pretty low gas consumption. Easy to set up out of the box. Norwall website and communication was excellent. Long back log wait but worth it. I recommend this for ranches with portable power needs.

Assembly Instructions
The assembly instructions were not clear and the diagram was to small to see clearly.

Died after four years.
Motor chugs and blows black smoke and will not hold an output. All maintenance completed on time. Now I have a dead expensive generator with no where close to repair it.

Exceptional product-thank you Norwall power systems
I ordered the product on 08/10/2020....only received it on 12/02/2020. But to no fault of Norwall power systems. Generac is trying to catch up with above normal ordering. The unit powers out my whole house including the central a/c. I could not be any happier with the product and the customer service at Norwall power systems. They kept me informed and updated me during the time frame that i waited for the product. This was to me customer service at it's best ! Thank you

Perfect generator
This generator is perfect for running my home. Had a transfer box installed today and it ran everything I needed in an emergency situation. The ease of connecting and the ease of starting. Bought a couple of box store generators and they don’t even compete with the Generac, Delivery was on time with no damage. For a worry free order, delivery and operation this is the generator to purchase. Thank you Generac!

Well made machine
I ordered this unit right when hurricane Irma hit. They told me it would take 4 days for delivery. It took 10. I don't blame Norwall for that as the shipping company caused the delay. Just don't be surprised if your order takes a bit longer than they say it will to actually show up. I noticed the same problem that Ron did with the fuel line. The way the routed it over the cross-member the bottom 4 or 5 gallons of gas will never be usable. I simply ran it under the cross bar instead. After it was assembled I had a hard time pushing it and the wheels actually were squeaky. I decided to take the wheels back off and grease the bearings. To my surprise there are no wheel bearings. Just loose fitting bushings that ride on the axle. I stuffed a bunch of grease in there and it rolls fine now. Other than those 2 minor issues it's a great machine. It runs well and puts out enough power to run my entire house, even the central air which was my main concern as I live in south Florida. Very happy with my purchase and would recommend it.
